In loving memory of Mrs. Rochel Leah Heber

    SAVE THE DATE!

On Sunday, November 18, a new Torah scroll will be ceremoniously brought to the Chabad Center of Yorktown!

The Torah completion Ceremony will take place at the Mohansic Elementary School , 704 Locksley Rd, in Yorktown Heights, beginning at 11 am . Participants will have the opportunity for a scribe to write their Hebrew name on parchment as a keepsake.  Children will partake in a Build-a-Torah workshop, creating a plush stuffed Torah to keep, as well as a Torah flag with an edible stick!

Jewish tradition says that a new Torah is to be welcomed into a community just as one welcomes a bride and groom. Accordingly, at 12pm, the scroll will be carried down the street under a Chuppah (wedding canopy), accompanied by music and dancing. The Torah will be escorted to its home, at the Chabad Synagogue, an approximately 10 minute walk away.

The public is invited to attend this momentous and historic event!

It will then be placed in the Holy Ark at the Chabad Shul, proceeded by the traditional Hakafot.

A bagels and lox lunch will follow.

The Torah is our most precious possession.  It sustained the Jewish people throughout history and ensured our survival against all odds.  We are taught that every Jew, regardless of background or knowledge, has an equal share in the Torah.

The 613th and final mitzvah in the Torah is the commandment that every Jew write their own Torah scroll. Our Sages have taught that one can fulfill this mitzvah by dedicating a portion or even one letter in a communal Torah. Be a part of the effort to perpetuate the Torah for all generations!

Have the scribe write a portion or a letter in the Torah just for you! Both children and adults are invited to participate in this community effort.

This is also a perfect opportunity to memorialize your loved onesin a way that brings peace and spiritual joy to the souls of those who have passed. Dedicate a portion of the Torah in their honor.
