49 days before the Jews received the Torah, they began counting down the days. Each day, they sought to better themselves spiritually so that they would be prepared for this awesome and historic event. Between the holidays of Passover and Shavuot, we too, count the “Omer,” signifying our preparation for the receiving of the Torah on the holiday of Shavuot. The Kabbalists explain that the 49 days that connect Passover with Shavuot correspond to the 49 drives and traits of the human heart. Each year, we retrace this inner journey with our “Counting of the Omer,” each day focusing on another human character trait and seeking to perfect it as best we’re able.
Join us as we discuss the methodical, 49-step process of self-refinement within the human soul.
